In the early 1900s, a group of inventors at the Wright Brothers company were working on a problem that had stumped many for centuries: how to build a machine that could fly through the air. The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, had been experimenting with various designs for years, but had yet to achieve sustained flight.

One day, while studying the flight of birds, Orville realized that the key to successful flight was not in the design of the wings, but in the balance and control of the aircraft. Heureka!

He and his brother Wilbur used this observation to design and build the Wright Flyer, the first successful powered aircraft. They understood that in order to fly, an aircraft must have both lift and control and they were able to achieve it by adding wing warping and a rear rudder to their design.

The Wright brothers' first successful flight on December 17, 1903, lasted only 12 seconds and covered only 36 meters, but it was a monumental achievement, something, that many thought was impossible.

We are telling you this story because it always reminds us of something many people in the business have forgotten.

Insight matters. And much more than we realise.

Because insight gives a direction to the solution. Being insightful is being perceptive, observing what is already there, and learning from it.

Just like in the story, the glitzy aircrafts made by others looked like they could fly, but only the machine of the Wright brothers actually took of. Similarly in marketing, ads, products and ventures seem to look great, but only the insight, will make them work.
